Fire Reinstatement of Café – Gunnersbury Park, Popes Lane, London, W3 8LQ
Gunnersbury Park occupies an area in the order of 72 hectares and serves as an important and well-used local community facility. Within the north-east sector of the Park there are the Large Mansion and Small Mansion, more correctly known as Gunnersbury Park House and Gunnersbury House which are listed Grade II* and Grade II respectively. The Large Mansion has been the home of Gunnersbury Park Museum since the late 1920's.
Unfortunately, the Café suffered an arson attack on the 28th May 2020, resulting in the complete destruction of the new building.
The building is to be reconstructed to match the previous arrangements, design and specification, consisting of a single story, timber clad structure, constructed around a structural steel frame, with blockwork external and internal walls, some of which provide structural bracing to the frame. The surviving foundation, which is to be retained and reused, consists of concrete piles, carrying concrete ground beams, over which concrete floor planks form the structural ground floor slab. This is to be topped with insulation and a finishing screed
Reconstruction Works: The fire damaged structure has been dismantled and removed down to ground level as part of a separate contract in preparation for the works to rebuild the Café.
